When we planned our trip to Villa de Leyva, the hotel was honestly one of the last things I thought about. I was so focused on the itinerary for the dinosaur parks, fossils, and food that I figured we’d just find somewhere decent near the plaza and call it good.
Then we found Hotel La Corada, and it ended up being one of the best parts of the trip.
Location, Location, Location

Hotel La Corada is located within Villa de Leyva’s Plaza Mayor which is the largest entirely cobbled square in Colombia. The location was a big plus for me since we didn’t have to drive anywhere, we could just walk around the plaza and side streets. The kids could play in the plaza, we could try a different restaurant every night, and everything felt easy.
For families, the location is everything. When your kid has an afternoon meltdown (not if, when), being a 2-minute walk from your hotel room is priceless. Eso no tiene precio.

The Rooms
We reserved the Family Room and I was extremely impressed with the layout. It featured not one, not two, but three full sized and very comfortable beds. Not only that, but there are two couches that can also be turned into beds, perfect for even the biggest of families.
There was a TV, a full bathroom with standing shower, and what surprised me the most was the private outdoor patio with seating. The room was big enough that even after the kids went to bed, the adults could be in the separate space without worrying that we would wake them up.
What Makes It Family-Friendly
It’s rare to find a boutique hotel that is family friendly, not just family tolerant. Hotel La Corada is 100% made for families to enjoy Villa de Leyva. The hotel has an indoor game room with games geared towards kids, which was a lifesaver on our last afternoon when the kids still had energy but we were done. They played, we relaxed with a Tinto, and everyone was happy.
Other amenities that made the stay great:
Full-service restaurant with cooked-to-order breakfast included in our stay, and lunch and dinner options within the hotel’s on site restaurant, Merece, we didn’t have to go far or wonder where we could eat.
Indoor terrace — perfect for morning coffee or afternoon decompression while the kids played nearby.

Spa with sauna — the sauna use was included with our stay. But what really impressed me was the kids massage! Choose from a kids massage or chocolate facial. Our 6 year old ended up trying it and I fear I have unlocked a new level of comfort that I had to wait until my 20’s to experience!

Breakfast

The included breakfast is cooked to order and it set us up perfectly for full days of exploring. Having a proper meal before heading to Gondava or Ráquira meant fewer snack meltdowns on the road. If you have kids under 11, there’s an additional breakfast fee of COP $40,000 per child which is worth knowing when budgeting.
Kids Policy
Children of all ages are welcome, which isn’t always a given at boutique-style hotels in colonial towns. Kids 11 and above are charged as adults. The staff were genuinely warm and welcoming with our kids.

Is It Worth It?

Absolutely. Whether you’re coming with family, solo, or a couples trip, the combination of central location, amenities, a proper restaurant, and helpful staff who actually like having children around made Hotel La Corada exactly the kind of base we needed. It was comfortable, convenient, and family-oriented in all the ways that matter.
The game room alone earned it a permanent spot on our recommendation list. When your kids can play independently while you sit with a cafécito and breathe for five minutes after a day of turisteando makes it all worth it.
