On Monday, August 10th, Colombia was hit with a 7.4. magnitude earthquake. The strongest to hit Colombia in a decade.
But what do you do if you had a trip planned and booked prior to the earthquake? Should you cancel your trip? It’s a valid question during an incredibly difficult time. The answer largely depends on where in Colombia your trip was planned.
If your trip is to Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, or a city outside of direct relief efforts
Do not cancel your trip, Colombia could benefit from the tourism revenue. Instead, look up items you could possibly bring from abroad, especially those that are more expensive or hard to obtain in Colombia
Consider items such as sanitary items, diapers, antibiotics, powdered baby formula, bed sheets, etc. or donate blood while you are here. Please check areas near where you are staying for items they might be searching for to donate.
If your trip is to one of the affected areas such as Chocó, Pereira, Manizales, and Cali
Traveling there might not be the best option.
If you are willing, able, and can physically assist with rescue efforts, look up organizations on the ground and inquire if they are accepting volunteers. Please check prior to continuing your trip. We do not want to overwhelm relief efforts or back up travel for those who are needed on the ground.
If you are able to, consider postponing your trip as to not overwhelm these areas which are focusing on rescue and relief efforts.

Money is the fastest way to send aid. Only donate to verified donation accounts. Do not send money to personal bank accounts.
